Three common branding mistakes + how to fix them

As a small business owner myself, I can understand that you are doing a lot, and sometimes your branding can fall by the wayside. Below are three branding mistakes I’ve seen that can negatively affect your branding.

1. You are “Font Happy”

The truth is, 2-3 fonts are plenty.

But Corrine, there are sooo many gorgeous fonts how can I narrow it down? I know, I know, I hear you. But, when you don’t use the same few fonts consistently, you are wreaking havoc on your brand recognition.

So, how can you improve?

Pick 2-3 fonts that match your brand style, and are legible. I would suggest a heading font, a secondary heading font, and one font for your paragraph text. I reccomend a Canva Pro account so you can upload and use your exact fonts. Then, create all your posts and marketing in Canva. It will make it so much easier to stay consistant.

2. Wacky color combos

Are you guilty of using alll the colors, all at once?

Your brand color palette may include 5 colors, but that doesn’t always mean you should use them all at once, or certain colors side by side. You’ll notice that some color combos make it difficult to read text.

3. Doing your logo dirty

Nothing stinks quite like a logo that has been stretched, distorted, or made to fit in places it shouldn’t. Your designer should have exported your logo files in all the versions and variations you could ever need. Do your best to use your logo as it was intended.

I hope this was helpful for you. I know that branding can seem daunting but a brand polish or a rebrand might be the perfect solution if you are done trying to DIY.

Purposefully crafted brand and web design.
